Denise Damaso (born in Palermo, Italy, in 1997) is a visual artist and photographer based in Tallinn. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo and at the Estonian Academy of Fine Arts.
Her work examines the position of human beings, particularly women in contemporary society, exploring identity, memory, and the subtle ways personal and collective experiences intersect . As an observer of the world she inhabits, Denise often weaves her own story with those of others, blending introspection with attentive engagement with lived realities and invisible narratives.
In her practice, past and present frequently converge, and the temporal space of her images remains fluid and open to interpretation. People, their belongings, and their histories are central to her practice, which blends introspection with engagement in real-world contexts. Her practice is a continuous negotiation between reflection, empathy, and the act of seeing, where every image becomes a space for awareness, discovery, and shared narrative.
Using both digital and analog photography, she conducts a research-driven practice, collecting images, objects, and narratives, to reveal connections, contrasts, subconscious themes and the hidden layers of human experience.
